Sasha Korbut is a Russian-American filmmaker, writer, producer, and yoga teacher based in New York City. His work explores themes of love, identity, and human connection. He wrote, directed, and produced Incomplete, a short film about love and misconnection, starring Pontus Lidberg and Cory Michael Smith. The film premiered at the 2023 Provincetown International Film Festival and had sold-out screenings at Roxy Cinema and QUAD Cinema in New York City. Its international premiere took place at the British Film Institute during BFI FLARE in 2024, where it received critical acclaim and glowing reviews on Letterboxd.
With a background in television, radio broadcasting, and journalism, Sasha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Far Eastern Federal University (Vladivostok, Russia) and a Master’s in Communication from the University of Valencia (Spain). He began his career as a journalist, TV host, and producer at National Television in Russia and has contributed to publications such as OUT Magazine, Filmmaker Magazine, SOBRANIE Exclusive, Konkurent, Snob, Medium, and Gay.ru.
Before transitioning to filmmaking, Sasha was a professional dancer for over two decades, performing with dance companies across Russia, South Korea, Spain, China, and the United States. A former scholarship student at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, he has danced in productions for Louis Vuitton, Dixon Place, Gene Frankel Theater, NYC Summer Stage, and The Francesca Harper Project. His commercial work includes campaigns for Wella, Siggis, Sabon, and HBO's Recommended by Humans. In 2020, he appeared in the Rebecca Foon/Patrick Watson music video Vessels alongside Tony-nominated dancer Karine Plantadit.
As an art curator and producer, Sasha has collaborated with renowned American photographers Henny Garfunkel and Nina Alovert. In 2015, with support from the U.S. Consulate in Vladivostok, he produced Nina Alovert’s solo exhibition. In 2018, he received a grant to curate and produce Henny Garfunkel's solo exhibit YOUNGER during the Pacific Meridian Film Festival in Vladivostok, Russia.
Sasha has been featured in The New York Times, OUT Magazine, and Time Out New York. As a freelancer, he works with film distribution companies such as Corinth Films, Kino Lorber, Mubi, and Neon, specializing in outreach and film scouting. He has also contributed to major film festivals, including The New York Film Festival, NewFest, Telluride Film Festival, and Dance on Camera.
In addition to his artistic work, Sasha is a dedicated yoga teacher, leading classes at Modo Yoga NYC and SUI Yoga, as well as international workshops on Yin and meditation practices. He is a resident at Goldeneye, Jamaica, and a guest teacher at Modo Yoga Miami, Modo Yoga San Diego, and Zentro Urban Yoga in Madrid.
